I have lived long enough to be considered an aged man. I was born in B.C. (Before Computers). In fact, I was born before portable transistor radios, before calculators (electronic, not the abacas), before FM radio, before stereo, before television, before car air conditioning, before automatic transmissions, before 25 cents a gallon gasoline, and before space travel. When I was born telephones were attached to wires in a home or office, and at home, the line was shared with your neighbors. There were no car phones or cell phones. There was no internet, Microsoft, Apple, or Google. There were no juice or milk cartons and no plastic bags. Believe it or not, there were no McDonald’s Golden Arches or Walmart's.
I am in my eighth decade. When I look back to my first decade, I see myself as very happy and content riding my homemade tobacco stick horse and gathering in front of the radio every night with my family listening to The Great Gildersleeve. I had no clue as to what would become available to me in the years to come. Now that I have acquired these things, am I any happier? “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?”“Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding” Proverbs 3:13.
I have lived in the United States, Latin America, Africa, Great Britain, and Spain in Europe. I have seen a lot of new things. I have studied and researched many things. I have lived a long time. Living a long time makes me older but does that make me any wiser?
